2007 Preservation Excellence Award- Mural Restoration

PULASKI PARK FIELDHOUSE

The Commission on Chicago Landmarks presents the 2007 Chicago Landmark Award for Preservation Excellence to outstanding projects that involved notable improvements to individual Chicago Landmarks or Buildings within Chicago Landmarks Districts.

In September 2007, The City of Chicago honored The Chicago Conservation Center with the 2007 Preservation Excellence Award for its work on the Pulaski Park Fieldhouse mural. The Pulaski Park project is part of a larger mission initiated by Heather Becker and The Chicago Conservation Center to restore 58 WPA-era murals in 11 Chicago Park District Fieldhouses.

The Mural Department, led by Chief Conservator Dr. Margaret Nowosielska, is nationally renowned for the preservation of over 600 Progressive and WPA murals in the United States.
